5th Edition of Leathertech Bangladesh 2017 Concludes With Increased Visitor Turnout


5TH LEATHERTECH Bangladesh 2017, Largest International Technology Tradeshow for the Leather Sector of Bangladesh was held between November 16 and 18, 2017 in Hall Nos. 2,2A and 4, at International Convention City, Bashundara. Hon’ble Commerce Minister Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP inaugurated the event along with heads of various industry associations. The event brought global technology to the doorsteps of the local Industry and acted as a platform for networking between suppliers of technology, components, accessories, dyes & Chemicals from all over the world and various stakeholders of the sector. 250 exhibitors from 15 countries showcased Machinery for Tanning Leather, Manufacturing Footwear and Leathergoods along with components, Dyes & Chemicals, Accessories and allied products benefitting all sectors of the Industry in Bangladesh. 5th edition which has cemented its place as a technology platform for the Leather sector in the country attracted 5130 business visitors showing a considerable increase over the years.

“Right from the first edition, the various stakeholders of the sector in Bangladeshhave have celebrated this tradeshow as their own. Council for Leather Exports India (CLE india) and Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA) have been regulars with their pavilion. This year we had a pavillion from Confederation of Indian Footwear Industry (CIFI) showcasing components participated in the show thus increasing Indian presence. Exhibitors from China whose presence had increased this year along with exhibitors from 15 countries helping the tradeshow grow and expand as the largest technology tradeshow for the Leather Sector.” Informed Nanda gopal K of ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, organizer of the tradeshow.

Lead support to the event was provided by •Leathergoods & Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) with strategic partnership from* Centre of Excellence for leather Skill Bangladesh Ltd (COEL) and support from •Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather goods & Footwear Exporter Association (BFLLFEA) •Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) * Bangladesh Paduka Prostutkarak Samity (BPPS) and endorsed by Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA).

A Buyer-Seller Meet was organized in strategic partnership with Centre of Excellence for leather Skill Bangladesh Ltd (COEL). It acted as a platform for one-to-one meetings between lead footwear & leathergoods exporters with exhibitors chosen by them for discussing about products, quality, compliance, price and delivery aspects.

The Leather industry is eyeing for $5 billion exports in the next few years. Bangladesh Leather Industry is seen as the next RMG. While this is ambitious by all parameters, is certainly achievable. This presents both an opportunity and challenge at the same time thus the industry is at a take-off mode to conquer the world. In this context the role of technology, components and accessories cannot be understated. LEATHERTECH Bangladesh 2017 helped to address the sourcing needs of the sector be it in the area of machinery, components, accessories, dyes & chemicals and support services showcased from all parts of the globe.

Bangladesh is attracting increasing interest from International investors as an emerging preferred low-cost manufacturing hub in Asia with a steadily growing economy, abundant, easy to train and affordable young labor force, preferential market access and strategic geo-economic location. Bangladesh offers exciting invest opportunities under its liberalized industrial policy, export-oriented, private sector-led growth, and the new specialized economic zones (SEZ) being offered. Country is blessed steady and good supply of raw material hence is better placed to grow. It is being seen as an attractive destination by global buyers to source.

Challenges of managing capacities, Efficient Production Methods, use of relevant state-of-the-art technology, newer materials, compliance, demanding delivery schedules, environmental concerns of the nation and buyers need to be recognized and overcome. LEATHERTECH Bangladesh will continue to bring International Technology closer to the doorsteps of each user and strive to bring both existing and new entrants under one roof and herald the inevitable technology, machinery, material change.” Added Mr. Nanda gopal K.
